The Florida Powerboat Club, led by Stu Jones of Fort Lauderdale, is organizing a Memorial Day weekend trip to Nassau. The excursion will be May 22-27 and will include a visit to the famous Atlantis / Paradise Island resort. The five-night trip will consist of three nights in Nassau and two nights on another island.

Jones said he expected that this excursion would consist largely of center-console style powerboats, as high-performance boats have more maintenance issues that are difficult to address in the Bahamas.
Meanwhile, the dates of FPC’s next poker run are drawing closer. April 10-13 is set for the 4th Annual Tampa Bay Poker Run. The three-day event engages participants in scenic cruising by day, and offers first-class accommodations and entertainment by night in vibrant downtown St. Petersburg.

The course has been modified “just slightly,” Jones says, to provide some new stops along the Tampa Bay waterfront, including St. Petersburg’s newest waterfront hot spot, The Getaway. At just over 100 miles in length, the poker run course is ideal for all boats; high-performance boaters may opt for bonus checkpoints that provide longer runs in calm bay waters to enjoy the speed and horsepower of their finely tuned machines.

“Naturally, the big attraction of this event is our event headquarters, the landmark Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Marina,” Jones says. “Unfortunately, dockage and accommodations at this venue are somewhat limited, so it’s important to register as soon as possible, to ensure the best availability.”
