Powerboat P1 is gearing up for the 16th Annual Keltec Thunder on Cocoa Beach powerboat race May 15-18, as the first round of the APBA /UIM World Championship series for all race classes. It will also serve as the APBA / UIM continental Championship for Class 1.
The APBA and UIM have reinforced a strong partnership in offshore powerboat racing, and all race teams competing will earn points toward a World Championship title. Thunder on Cocoa Beach is an APBA/P1 offshore favorite, and APBA, along with P1 and UIM, are stoked for their 16th year at Cocoa Beach, along with the first round of this all-new APBA Continental Championship Series. Other rounds that will make up the balance of the World Championship series will be announced by the APBA soon.
Powerboat P1 prides itself on producing world-class powerboat races. Recent opportunities opened the possibility to offer APBA World and Continental Championships alongside the UIM Class 1 World Championship Series. In an effort to continue building a strong brand, Powerboat P1 recently migrated into a newly designed website: powerboatp1.com. The website is still under construction, but the landing page is live where the race team entry link can be found for Thunder on Cocoa Beach. Race teams are encouraged to pre-register now, as there are only a few spots left in the downtown block party on May 16 and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“P1 will continue to work toward producing professional, high-quality events for the teams, spectators, and our stakeholders," said Thomas Covington, commercial director for Powerboat P1. "With the addition of new corporate sponsors like Progressive and the renewal with partners like Monster Energy and Mercury Racing, we feel the future of P1 and the APBA National Championship and UIM world Championship series is in a great place."
