DCB Performance Boats of El Cajon, CA, has delivered a brand-new M37R catamaran to customers Shawn and Andrea Reed of Lake Havasu City, AZ. Powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboards, the boats colors and graphics are nearly identical to Reed's other boat—a DCB M35 powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 stern drives.
"Both are yellow with pearl black," Reed says. "For the new one, we added a dark gray stripe, and just a bit of carbon fiber."

Reed took delivery directly prior to the DCB Regatta, held in Lake Havasu last weekend.

In addition to going a bit bigger, Reed says he was attracted to the outboards' reputation of being relatively easy to care for. "I was kind of wanting to maybe slow down a little bit on the big maintenance issues," he confides. "The Mercury Racing 450Rs...they'll basically last forever if you take care of 'em."

He's quick to clarify: "I've had no issues with my 1100s—they're great motors. I just really feel like I got the best of both worlds."

Reed is not only versatile when it comes to outboards and I/Os: he's also well-versed in V-drives as well. For many years, Reed has been a fixture on the drag-boat circuit, driving his Top Secret machine in Pro Mod class. (He won Lucas Oil’s Pro Driver of the Year Award in 2012, and continues to be active in the sport.) A municipality contractor building roads in Washington State, Reed also has homes in Arizona and Missouri, so his water playgrounds tend to be Lake Havasu and Lake of the Ozarks—and that's where you'll find him in his DCBs.

After showing off the M37R at the DCB Regatta and using it on Havasu, he's loving the boat's performance. "I think it's great," he says. "I'd never driven a true cat until Thursday, when I took delivery of it. I especially love driving it at 100 to 110 mph. It's like driving a Cadillac. It corners really nicely—the sponsons just kind of dig in and the boat turns into the corners."
