The 1985 Gentry Turbo Eagle Larry Smith Scarab, winner of the 1988 APBA Superboat World Championship, will be offered at No Reserve during the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction on April 16–18.
Commissioned by offshore racing pioneer Tom Gentry and driven to its world title by Don Johnson, the 46' deep-V monohull is regarded as one of the most significant offshore race boats of the 1980s.
Power is delivered by three original Gentry turbocharged 533-c.i. V-8 engines producing approximately 1,000-hp each on 92-octane pump gas, and up to 1,200 hp each on race fuel, restored to 1988 World Championship specifications.
Following a comprehensive restoration reportedly exceeding $1.3 million, the boat has been returned to exact championship specifications, including its iconic No. 99 Gentry racing livery.
