The bodies of three of the four men involved in last weekend’s powerboat crash on Sacramento-area Folsom Lake have been recovered and identified, investigators revealed.

On Saturday, May 10, four men were aboard a Skater that flipped and capsized on the lake. Eyewitnesses told authorities that the boat was racing down the reservoir at speeds beyond 100 mph on a day with wind gusts reaching 25-30 mph. There were no signs of any lifejackets on the lake.

The first body to be recovered was that of 47-year-old James Andrew Strauch, which was discovered by California Department of Parks and Recreation personnel on Friday, May 16. On late Saturday, El Dorado County officials recovered the bodies of Toby Strauch, 54, and Gerald Jacobs, 53.

Jon Smith, 48, is believed to have also been on board the Skater at the time of the accident.

Constructed in 1955 and located about 25 miles northeast of Sacramento, Folsom Lake does not have a speed limit for boats in open water.
