The World Powerboat Racing Association—the new and alternate sanctioning body for offshore powerboat racing launched earlier this month that aims to create a transparent, racer-focused, and professionally governed structure for the sport—has issued its formal Rulebook and Technical Regulations for the upcoming season.
Created as a response to unresolved discussions between existing race organizations regarding sanctioning rights and the designation of UIM Class 1 vs. Pro Class 1, the WPRA aims to advance the sport with modern rules and high standards for competition, safety, and integrity. According to the WPRA, the Rulebook is a comprehensive guide that reflects its commitment to fair, consistent, and racer-focused competition, and includes all competition rules, safety protocols, and technical standards required for WPRA-sanctioned events.
In addition, the group formally introduced the WPRA Board of Directors, a group of dedicated professionals and racing veterans committed to advancing the sport and supporting the offshore racing community. The team represents a cross-section of leadership, competition experience, racer advocacy, and event development—ensuring that the WPRA remains racer-first, transparent, and professionally governed.
