Factory Stock class is about to welcome a new boat to its contingent. Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil—one of the fiercest competitors in Pro Class 1—are building a new MTI 390XR to race in Factory Stock class in 2026, Speedboat has learned.
The team's Monster Energy/M•CON Skater 438 raceboat, which they've campaigned for the last three years, has proven to be one of the fastest in the class, taking first place in last year's Clearwater Nationals and second place at the Key West World Championship. Now they'll be pulling double duty again as they target the expanding Factory Stock fleet piloting M•CON/Monster Energy and new sponsor HURT!, an smartphone app developed by Miller's cousin, orthopedic surgeon Brett Miller. The Kansas-based performance-boating Miller cousins famously embarked on their M•CON journey together back in 2016, when they purchased the former WHM 40' Skater from veteran offshore racer Billy Mauff to compete in Super Cat Class together.

"We finished the boat in the parking lot before the first race," Brett recalls. "We did not get any test time. Tyler and I had never driven the raceboat together, and we ended up taking third place in our first race with zero test time. That's when it all started."
After a few races, the pair spun out hard in Michigan City, IN—an accident that left Brett with a broken hip. "I didn't think it was something that I wanted to continue doing," he says. "The risk wasn't worth it." The team's crew chief, Tyson Garvin, took over driving duties in 2017 and raced with Tyler until 2019; Myrick Coil of Performance Boat Center joined the team as driver in 2020. Together, Tyler and Myrick earned the 2022 and 2023 Race World Offshore Super Cat World Championship title won the APBA Super Cat National Championship four consecutive years. Together, they entered the ranks of Pro Class 1 in 2023, with major sponsor Monster Energy on board.

Last season, the pair decided to focus exclusively on racing in Pro Class 1. However, they also did a brief stint piloting MTI Vice President Taylor Scism's T/S Motorsports 390XR entry in the highly competitive 500R Factory Stock class for three races in 2025, earning consecutive checkered flags in the first two contests.
"After back-to-back wins, we were battling for first place in Michigan City when we had a mechanical issue that took us out of the race," Tyler told Speedboat co-publisher Ray Lee and Coil on their Boats & Bros podcast. "So we decided to just go back to focusing on Pro Class 1 from there. But I kept talking to Myrick and my wife, Lindsey, as well as the entire race family. So we had some talks with [MTI President] Randy Scism, and he does a very good job at selling his product," he laughs. Thus, an all-new MTI 390XR was commissioned for Factory Stock's 2026 season.
The added bonus is that as lead foreman at Performance Boat Center, MTI is a brand that the LOTO-based mega-dealer sells, so officially putting the team in a 390XR was quintessentially logical. "And then, competing with Mercury Racing power is what really altered my thoughts. They decided in the off season to allow open exhaust, so those 500Rs will really sound like something. We're super excited—2026 is going to be awesome."
The boat will not be ready for the season opener in St. Petersburg, FL, later this season, but the team is planning to debut it at IHRA's race in Cocoa Beach, FL, May 15–17.

Brett Miller is equally stoked to see his cousin conquer Factory Stock racing, and to bring some exposure for the new HURT! app. "We're one of the largest orthopedic platforms in the nation," he tells Speedboat. "We are providing both immediate triage for injuries, and we've just launched a new digital rehab platform. Tyler's own company, M•CON, LLC has used our services and saved thousands of dollars for injured workers. We're honored to have our company on the boat. They have seen it come from nothing to a national powerhouse." The cousins are close not only in spirit, but they're neighbors in Wathena, KS. "Our properties actually touch each other."
The first race of the IHRA Offshore Series kicks off next weekend, March 27-29, at the St. Pete Powerboat Grand Prix, presented by Monster Energy.
