FT. MYERS, Fla. —STR Powerboats, the high-performance marine manufacturer founded by world champion powerboat racer Shaun Torrente, has announced the launch of its first production model, the STR 4T.

The all-new true 40-foot pleasure catamaran boasts a 10’10” beam, and blends championship-proven racing technology with refined, modern design, and a heavy emphasis on safety—marking the company’s entry into the consumer performance market. The six-seater, with the option to accommodate eight, has an aerospace-inspired cockpit with wraparound windscreen, reminiscent of the exotic stylings of the supercars.

The STR 4T is the result of a collaboration between Torrente and Chief Creative Officer Wes Jones, a designer widely recognized for his work in the high-performance marine sector. Together, the duo set out to translate real-time offshore racing expertise into a production platform engineered for both extreme performance and everyday usability.

The launch follows STR Powerboats’ recent success at the Key West World Championships in November 2025, where the team’s 966 32 race catamaran captured a world championship title in the hyper-competitive Super Stock class in a field of 14 boats total. That race program served as the technical foundation for the STR 4T, which carries forward the engineering philosophy and performance pedigree developed on the world stage.

Powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R outboards, delivering a combined 1,000 horsepower, the STR 4T features an advanced stepped hull designed for efficiency, stability, and control at speeds exceeding 100 mph.The platform draws directly from Torrente’s decades of experience at the highest levels of powerboat racing, including his recent F1H20 World Championship win against international competition, paired with Jones’ forward-looking design approach.

“The 4T is the culmination of my entire career in racing and the marine industry,” said Torrente, founder of STR Powerboats.“Winning the world championship in Key West with our 966 race catamaran proved that our engineering and design approach works at the highest level. Now we are bringing that same uncompromising philosophy to a boat that enthusiasts can enjoy with their family and friends. This isn’t just another boat; it’s a statement on what is possible when you refuse to compromise.”

The STR 4T introduces several impressive innovations aimed at redefining the high-performance catamaran segment.

Among the standout advancements is the STR Stability Assist, a patent-pending actives afety system designed to improve control and confidence at high speeds. As the boat exceeds 80 mph, the system automatically manages the trim and hull attitude to maintain proper angle of attack, promoting stability and safe operation. The technology also actively monitors and manages aerodynamic lift, helping to anticipate and reduce the risk of dangerous blow-over scenarios as performance limits are approached. For highly experienced catamaran operators, an override option is available, with the system automatically resetting to its default safety mode once the boat is shut down following the unassisted run.

The boat also features an automated targa top—an industry first for a high-performance catamaran—providing weather protection at the touch of a button, without disrupting aerodynamic efficiency. Sophisticated ventilated seating, constructed from carbon fiber and incorporating integrated neck ventilation, delivers race-inspired cooling comfort for extended high-speed operation.

Design played an equally central role in the development of the 4T. Under Jones’ direction, the catamaran adopts an aerospace-inspired aesthetic, with faceted geometric hull surfaces engineered to reduce drag by 15% while improving structural rigidity. The cockpit layout emphasizes ergonomics and accessibility, featuring a center-console-inspired configuration, an automotive-style windshield register, and a dedicated stepped entry system for safer and easier boarding.

“Our design philosophy was to create a visual language that speaks to both performance and luxury,” said Wes Jones, ChiefCreative Officer of STR Powerboats. “The 4T’s aggressive lines and facetedsurfaces are a direct reflection of its capabilities, while the refinedinterior and innovative features provide a level of comfort and control that issimply unmatched in this category. The lessons we learned from ourchampionship-winning race program have been integrated into every aspect ofthis boat.”

STR Powerboats (www.STRpowerboats.com) is now accepting orders for the initial 12-month production run of the STR 4T, which will be limited to five build slots. Production of the first hull is scheduled to begin in April 2025, followed by on-water testing in June and initial customer deliveries targeted for November. Each vessel will be built at the STR Boatworx facility in Ft.Myers, Florida, underscoring the company’s commitment to American manufacturing and quality.

“I've been in an awesome and blessed position to run, drive, work ona nd set up just about every catamaran in this class in the market and they're all really good products but they're missing features that I think is needed in our sector,” said Torrente.

“My team and I all boat here in Florida and put thousands of miles on these boats a year, so we want to make sure they have all the creature comforts that they deserve. I especially want to add a higher level of safety with our Stability Assist that doesn't exist right now because we haven't done anything to make the boats safer. It's too easy for people to not put their life jackets on, so with this passive system running in the background that they're not necessarily controlling, it will make the boat safer and hopefully reduce risk and accidents, and at the end of day save some lives."

T"hat's the biggest thing: we're just trying to move the industry and sector forward—we’re not trying to make a copy of anybody else's, but we're trying to make what's next.”
