Powerboat P1, the international marine motorsport promoter, is making a significant move into live television coverage of its racing by entering into a partnership MAVTV. Today’s announcement comes with final preparations underway for P1’s opening race event of the season this weekend on Florida’s Atlantic coast.

The two-year deal will get underway with MAVTV broadcasting live coverage of the UIM Class 1 World Championship race on Sunday, May 19. The five-event series, which sees the 160mph race boats competing in Missouri, Wisconsin and Florida, will receive live and highlights coverage globally across the entire MAVTV media platform over the next five months. Programming will also include Class 1, P1 Offshore and P1 AquaX highlights shows, together with a two-hour live program in October featuring Class 1 and AquaX jet ski racing in St. Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

In October 2020 the UIM, the world governing body of powerboat racing, assigned to Powerboat P1 the international rights to Class 1 offshore racing in an exclusive ten-year agreement.

“It’s clear that millions of fans around the world are loving the dramatic, exhilarating action and diverse marine motorsport offering and our new agreement with MAVTV incorporating live coverage will significantly enhance our broadcast package," said P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala. "By growing the US and international television audiences and attracting new teams and fans to the sport, P1 is delivering considerable value to host venues, race teams, sponsors and partners. Being the world’s leading media platform for motorsports programming, MAVTV will bring viewers action-packed entertainment, fierce on-water competition and take our total global reach to more than 300 million homes.”

MAVTV President CJ Olivares added: “We are delighted to welcome Powerboat P1 racing to the MAVTV family and to bring live, exciting coverage of the high-speed UIM Class 1 World Championship to our viewers. There’s nothing quite like watching marine motorsports executed at such a high level. The intensity and speed of Class 1, plus the exhilarating courses and fierce competition of P1 Offshore and AquaX jet ski racing are sure to thrill fans and are a perfect fit for our growing lineup of exceptional live racing and motorsports coverage. We’re excited to be the exclusive home for live coverage of these series, sharing the stories of the world’s top marine racers with dedicated fans and new audiences through our global media platform.”

Joining the P1 broadcast team for the MAVTV one-hour live show will be renowned motorsports broadcaster Ken Stout as the principal host, with world champion offshore powerboat racer Marc Granet as co-host and Taylor Nicole Snyder as pit reporter to provide viewers with unparalleled insight.

The P1 powerboat and jet ski coverage on MAVTV is part of a massive racing lineup of top tier series and events this summer that includes the European Le Mans Series, the 2024 Monaco Historic Grand Prix, the Toyota GR Cup North America and MAVTV Originals premieres.
