On Sunday, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) wrapped its very first offshore boat race—a successful and exciting two days of go-fast action that included harrowing attrition and lots of great competition.

Pro Class 1 boats raced on both days, giving fans a terrific show that culminated in victory for two different winners. Saturday's competition was on relatively flat water. The seven entries included #03 DMR Performance (with Bill Pyburn and Brit Lilly), #06 Monster Energy/M•CON (with Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil), #11 XINSURANCE North (JJ Turk and Nick Buis), #32 GC Racing (Willy Cabeza and Johnny Tomlinson), #07 Discrete Offshore Racing (Adam Carpenter and Reese Langheim), #10 Outta Pocket/XINSURANCE South (Kevin Birrell and Billy Moore) and #5 WHM Motorsports (Billy Mauff and Jay Muller). Pyburn and Lilly were the team to beat, taking their newly christened DMR Performance machine from pole to pole. They were followed by Monster Energy/M•CON and XINSURANCE North.

When Sunday's race kicked off, water conditions were much rougher, with 4-5 foot seas. Initially, it appeared as if DMR Performance was going to score back-to-back wins as it took an early lead. However, the pilots missed a buoy early on, and had to turn around to correct their mistake. This opened the door for Monster Energy/M•CON to take the lead, which Miller and Coil retained for the remainder of the race. Now in last place, Pyburn and Lily had their work cut out for them—but as they did at least twice before, they managed work their way back up the ranks to second place, followed by GC Racing and Outta Pocket/XINSURANCE South. However, following the race, DMR was disqualified for missing the buoy, moving GC Racing up to second place and Outta Pocket/XINSURANCE South into third place.

Two of the three remaining competitiors suffered mechanical issues, while XINSURANCE North barrel-rolled, landing upright. The boat appeared to suffer some significant but repairable damages, but they will be repaired. The pilots checked out OK.

Super Cat racing also delivered some heart-pounding action on Sunday. Pyburn and Lily did double-duty in their Dirty Money competitor, and led most of the race to take the win. Chris Grant and Jay Muller in CJ Grant/Graydel—which had taken an early lead—finished second out of six entries, while Wicked (Chase Muller and Jax Muller) came in third.

Six boats joined Sunday's Factory Stock blowout, which saw Nick Imprescia and Ian Morgan taking an early lead in their 151 Express Phantom (owned by Jorge Arellano), with Jackhammer close behind. However, Jackhammer pilots Reese Langheim and Julian Maldonado quickly overtook 151 Express, and held on to it for the win. (Spectators gasped when Sunday's tumultuous waves threatened to blow the boat over, as it went airborne a number of times.) Lake Wylie, with Joe Spoloric and Garrett Coonrod, finished second, while Say Less MF, with Rusty Williams and Chad Rudesill, came in third, followed by Mead Family Racing (with Caleb Mead and John Tomlinson). 151 Express and Good Boy Vodka went out with mechanical issues.

A staggering 16 boats joined the Super Stock contingent on Sunday, with GL Construction/Team Bermuda (David Selley and Steven Bridges) qualifying first on Saturday, followed by Mom Ain't Happy and Wozencraft. GL Construction got some fierce competition from Shaun Torrente and Matt Jamnickzy in STR/Allied, but the GL team managed to capture the win. Allied finished second, while Wozencraft (Jeremy Tschida and Julian Maldonado) finished third. They were followed by Big East/Raymarine, Mom Ain't Happy and Nuff Said.

Three Modified Vee boats raced on Sunday: NMBRV Resort (with Kirk Hanna and Mark Rinda), Boatfloater.com (with Steve Kildahl and son Stephen Kildahl), and the brand-new team of Dustin Clouatre and Owen Buis in Louisiana. Sadly, Louisiana broke down early in the race and had to be towed in. NMBRV Resort dominated  the entire race, capturing the checkered flag, while Boatfloater.com came in second.
