With the newest members of the company’s “all-star team” settled in at Camdenton, MO-based DWR/Doug Wright Powerboats, owner Justin Wagner is excited to announce that an overhauled outboard-powered 42-foot catamaran is in the works under the leadership of reputable industry veterans Gary Stray and Andy Imhof along with the dynamic duo behind the design and build process, Doug Wright Sr. and Doug Wright Jr.
Christened the DWR427, the new model is going to be wider and sleeker than the current offering, according to Wagner. He said the catamaran features a new cockpit design from the seating to the dash, as well as a new deck design and the latest running surface technology derived from the company’s highly regarded 39-footer.
“With all of the momentum we have going, it makes complete sense to continue advancing our current models, especially when we can incorporate characteristics into the DWR427 from both the DWR39 and our new DWR447C1 raceboat,” said Wagner, who expects the new 42-footer to have incredible performance, like a 39 on steroids. “I mean it; the 39 is the best boat I’ve ever driven and the 42 could very well surpass it when you factor in the genius of Gary Stray. Between all of his years setting up boats for Victory team, Miss GEICO and more, Gary has decades of real-world experience, on and off the racecourse.
“Now I feel like we have the best of both worlds with all the experience Doug brings to the table from his decades of building raceboats and pleasure boats,” he added. “We’re talking at least six decades of research between Doug and Gary, and now they are working together to develop the most phenomenal performing boats possible. I’m very confident they are going to do just that.”
Hitting the water in the summer of 2026, the DWR427 comes stock with twin Mercury Racing 500R engines. Wagner mentioned that clients can select the DWR factory-offered “XTR” package, which is the same factory-setup package that propelled the DWR39 XTR demo boat to a blistering 147 mph at the 2025 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri. That boat—with nothing changed to its setup—logged more than 200 miles during last month’s Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West event.
“Our team is at the top of the game with the innovation and bells and whistles that our boats offer,” Wagner expressed, alluding to even more to come. “We’re making our boats nicer, safer and more usable than ever. I can’t wait to get started on a few of these for some special customers.”
