Desert Storm Street Party OK’d for McCulloch Blvd. After Restrictions Lifted

Christina Nichols of Storm Poker Runs—producer of Lake Havasu’s annual Desert Storm Poker Run and Shootout—went live on social media Tuesday evening to make the announcement that the epic event’s Street Party will take place on its traditional home along McCulloch Boulevard.

With Covid-19 forcing the early-April Lake Havasu Boat Show to relocate from Lake Havasu State Park to Sara Park, some uncertainty loomed about the fate of Desert Storm’s Street Party. However, on Thursday morning, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey lifted coronavirus restrictions around the state as residents continue to be vaccinated and Covid cases trend downward. That means the Street Party location won’t need to be moved.

“We have official approval from the City of Lake Havasu that we can have McCulloch Boulevard back,” Crane said. “I spent the day confirming, double-confirming and triple-confirming that we are a go.”

Nichols said that the Storm Team was busy working with the City of Lake Havasu on final logistics and details, and welcomed participants, sponsors, volunteers and spectators to the 24th annual event, scheduled for April 21-25. The Street Party will be held April 22 on McCulloch Boulevard from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wait until 1 p.m. to show up, as the street is very congested while displays are set up. The event is open and free to the public.

“Sometimes we have bad days, sometimes we get bad news, and sometimes we have to just roll with the punches, but today is a good day,” Nichols said. “Today is cause for some celebration.”
