American Ethanol Is LOTO’s Top Gun—Again!

1

For the second year in a row, Don Onken’s American Ethanol catamaran was named the official Top Gun competitor at the Lake of the Ozarks (LOTO) Shootout held in Missouri.
Driven by Slug Hefner and throttled by Mystic Boats founder John Cosker, the 51’ Mystic was clocked at 217 mph, shattering its own speed of 208 mph in 2015.

By all accounts, the winning run was a nail-biter, as the Shootout Committee initially disqualified their run on a technicality. However, upon review, the committee later reversed its decision, making the 217-mph run a valid entry in the competition. In the end, no boat ran faster than American Ethanol.

Launched in 1988, the event encompasses a shootout, poker run and various other activities on the sprawing Lake of the Ozarks. More than 100,000 spectators typically gather to watch the largest unsanctioned boat race in the Midwest.
